SINGER MOMOTAZ BECOMES GOODWILL AMBASSADOR ON MIGRATION AND COUNTER TRAFFICKING

“I am already committed to many social issues, and I am honoured to contribute to raising awareness among potential migrants and migrants living abroad on the issues of safe migration. I would also like to raise related policy issues in the Parliament”, said popular singer and Member of Parliament Ms. Momotaz Begum.
She was speaking at the Signing Ceremony marking Momotaz Begom as IOM’s Goodwill Ambassador on Safe Migration, at the National Press Club, Dhaka today.

In her opening speech, IOM’s Regional Representative, Ms. Rabab Fatima said, “with her mass appeal and popularity across ranks as a singer, Momotaz Begom is the best choice to raise awareness on the harms of irregular movement and the benefits of safe and orderly migration”. She said IOM is committed to raise social awareness together with its new Goodwill Ambassador and will continue to engage with other celebrities in the same line.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Dina Haque, Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office emphasized on the importance of joint efforts by the government, civil societies and International organizations in facilitating safe and orderly migration and combating human trafficking. She said “the Hon’ble Prime Minister herself considers the issue of safe migration a priority in the country”.

Dr. Kamaluddin, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, expressed that Momotaz Begom’s role as Goodwill Ambassador will compliment the ongoing efforts of the government in counter trafficking initiatives.

Reiterating this, Ms. Shamshun Nahar Begum, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare expressed that Momotaz Begom will indeed serve as an important voice in raising awareness and supporting other initiatives at the grassroot level across the country and even abroad where our migrant workers work.
