Message from Regional Representative

Over the centuries, migration has been one of the key factors of socio-economic development in South Asia. The fluid movement of people across and within the borders of South Asia is not only an undeniable reality; it has emerged as a key development issue. Today, migration in South Asia is a phenomenon with significant potentials for benefits and risks, making migration management essential. Just as the dynamics of migration has evolved in the region, so have the complexities of migration management. However, managing migration ensuring the benefits of migration are harnessed and risks minimized, is a challenge that needs to be addresses collectively and comprehensively.

Through our offices in Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, IOM has been working in South Asia for nearly a decade. Our diverse programmes span from enhancing the impact of regular labour migration to emergency responses for displaced populations to ensuring the protection of vulnerable migrants including survivors of trafficking. This website is aimed at bringing to you our programmes and initiatives and facilitating an exchange of learning and cooperation. It is only through our joint efforts and a shared understanding that we can ensure humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all.
